Invert, Involve, Empower
Tues., Aug 7 from 3:30 – 5:00 pm

The Mystery of inversions is no match for the wisdom of acrobatic training techniques! The ancient yoga texts tell us that Headstand and Shoulderstand are the King and Queen of Asanas, mainly due to the vast medical benefits. These and other inversions, such as handstand and forearmstand, can be an enjoyable part of your daily practice once you learn how to work progressively. After solidifying spotting techniques, we will progress to Basic Partner Acrobatics and Pyramids, cultivating trust, strength and flexibility while working as a team. A playful, safe, supportive environment will empower the whole room to be upside down and connect to the divine! Some yoga experience recommended, no inversion experience needed.

The Myth of Asana
Wed., Aug 8 from 8:00 – 9:45am
Thurs., Aug 9 from 8:00 – 9:45am

The 'myth of asana' is that they are done solely on a physical level. If you add awareness and relaxation, as kriya yoga suggests, the pose takes on an environment that allows for the spontaneous arising of the four higher states of raja yoga. The "myth of asana" classes present practical methods on how to achieve poses in all four ways. Within all three classes, the "Dance of Shiva" courses taught by Glenn Black will be introduced. "This concerns the adding of awareness and conscious relaxation to your practice".

Please Note: These classes are vigorous and should be attempted only by experienced students and teachers.

Douglas Brooks
Shri: the Embodiment of Grace
Combo Session w/ Sianna Sherman
Wed., Aug 8 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm

Goddess of Light and Darkness: The Auspicious Love of Shri

According to the Tantras, the universe is the Divine's desire to express Herself as our own experience. The core of this experience is called 'shri', the innate and primordial power of beneficence, affirmation, and value. Everything we experience is Shakti's own self-expression and yet we also know ourselves as distinctive individuals, each with our own notions of ourselves. It is from the individual experience of ourselves that we can savor the fullness of our identity with the Great Goddess.

In this seminar we will weave the stories, myths, and philosophical principles of the Auspicious Goddess Shri into the practice of asana. Shri has chosen to reflect Herself fully in ourselves — in our bodies, minds, and Hearts. In this session we will explore Her presence within us, drawing her presence into the asana's celebratory forms. We will explore the fullness of yoga: philosophy and practice, intellectual challenges and physical self-expression, spiritual focus and the body's celebratory offering.

Inner Worlds: Tantric Experience and the Subtle Body
Thurs., Aug 9 from 10:00 am - Noon

In the vision of the Tantra the gift of our physical embodiment is an expression of the immortal choosing mortal form. In the depths of our inner experience lies the power to reflect, recognize, and expand the boundaries of consciousness by a systematic study and participation in our human nature: physically, rationally, intuitively, we engage the awakening process called 'kundalini.' In this session we will consider the 'wrapped one,' kundalini, in ways go far beyond the usual descriptions and processes advanced in contemporary yoga sources. Drawn from the Tantras, kundalini becomes an exploration of the divine?s choice to explore the divine nature through our own. We will consider the sources and teachings that enable us to appreciate kundalini from within these empowering and complex teachings of the Rajanaka, a goddess-centered form of Auspicious Wisdom or Shrividya.
Poised for Grace: Bhagavad Gita as Indispensable Teachings for the Practice of Yoga
Thurs., Aug 9 from 1:30 – 3:15pm

In the canon of yoga teachings no text has been more influential in as many diverse traditions as the Song of the Blessed One, the Bhagavadgita. In this seminar we will study this essential source of yoga from the visionary standpoint of the Tantras, with particular emphasis on the work of the great 11th century Tantric Abhinavagupta. Our study guide will be a new annotation of the Gita entitled Poised for Grace, by Douglas R Brooks. We?ll be led through the essentials of the Gita and deepen our understanding of its teachings as the author takes us further into the process of close reading, conversation, and an in-depth study of this critical source of yoga tradition.

Parashakti

Parashaktis Dance Of Liberation: With Trancedance, Yoga With Dechen Thurman, & Globesonic Dj Fabian Alsultany
Wed., Aug 8 from 6:30 – 9:30pm

This is a spiritual opera, a tantric circus, a performing mystery school, a universal ritual honoring the wisdom of sacred chants, vision and dance. Parashakti and a number of practitioners (Gatekeepers) trained by Parashakti along with Electronic Global Trance music facilitate this unique merging of spiritual practices, Parashakti and Gatekeepers lead dancers through a modern ritual fusing dance, yoga, breath work and contemporary shamanism. Beginning with a 60-minute yoga class by a Jivamukti Yoga instructor. Parashakti leads participants into the realms of TranceDance. Dancers ride the wave of sacred rhythm.  By use of healing sounds, hypnotic percussive rhythms, transformational breathing techniques and the use of sensory deprivation through blindfolding while dancing, the ceremony takes the dancer into 'trance' state that promotes physical emotional release and spiritual awakening.

Through this transformational fusion of yoga, breath work and contemporary shamanism, we can access ancient wisdom in the urban jungle. This communal ceremony allows dancers to journey through darkness to recover their inner light. The use of blindfolds help shed inhibitions and heightens awareness, allowing dancers to go on a "vision quest" through the TranceDance, moving them to deeper states of consciousness and closer to their soul's purpose.

Participants are ritually purified, open their spiritual channels, unite their heart, mind and spirit, become clear about their true intentions, and then ritually dance those intentions, releasing limitations that keep us from manifesting our highest power and potential. All committed to the spirit of love, unity, healing, spiritual awakening and celebration of life!

We are asked to face our fear and let go of it! We journey into darkness where we explore through movement and physical release in order to work through and let go of fear and limitations. In the darkness you enter your body and become in tune with your deeper, intuitive mind where you can access your inner wisdom.  Through ecstatic dance and enthralling rhythms, we are able to bypass the limitations of the ego mind and connect to the mind of our heart. By engaging the body and entering with ritual intention, we are able to balance mind with body and spirit in a powerful alliance. We dance our power and unlock our dreams!

Finally, as we relax into the present moment, the heart blooms wide open and our love, compassion, intuition, and creativity flow easily. This perfect combination of simple mindfulness meditation and lovingkindness meditation, gentle yoga and restorative yoga poses (restful, supported poses) will help you cultivate inner harmony as well as greater sensitivity for yourself and others.
