It’s hard to believe but after months of planning our first conference, Fit Yoga’s Evolution 2007 is now part of our history. The event was very exciting and, even though it was a lot of hard work, what became crystal-clear to me was how very fortunate we are to be a part of the ever-expanding yoga community. It was truly remarkable to see the pure joy on the faces of all yogis and yoginis as they were able to meet and practice with so many of the yoga world’s luminaries, and to also observe teachers enjoying and supporting each other’s classes.
Many of the participants have written or called to say how much they loved the overall blissful vibe and the uniqueness of the classes. One person wrote: “I felt such a sense of peace, connection, and excitement at the end of each day. It was amazing to be exposed to such breadth and depth in the yoga community.”
A personal highlight was Parashakti’s Yogic trance Dance -- someday when there’s more time I’ll share one or two of the wilder moments. Many people also raved about the Aroma yoga class as well as the Ancient Ayurveda series, and of course our Anusara and OM Yoga devotees had plenty to keep them occupied.
A few other highlights include the opening ceremony, which featured an amazing demonstration by the Acro-yogis, the sensuous beauty of Hemalayaa Behl’s Traditional Indian Dance honoring Ganesha, an inspiring keynote speech by Cyndi Lee, and plenty of chanting and dancing to the beautiful music provided by David Nictern and his band, Drala. (A special note of thanks to Lilias Folan: a few sips of wine before a speech does take the edge off!)
And let’s not forget the fashion show!! Over 20 yogis and yoginis modeled the hippest fashion trends for fall and put on a truly spectacular show. Suann Polervari and her team managed to keep the chaos to a minimum, and the stylists from Yves Durif Salon outdid themselves by expertly weaving raffia into the each model’s hair as Lynda Castro and her make-up team made faces sparkle. Kristin McGee did an outstanding job as mistress of ceremony and the audience applauded enthusiastically as each and every model demonstrated their favorite pose.
A very special note of gratitude to Donna Kuebler: as co-director Donna did an outstanding job keeping everything together and running smoothly – she is indeed a powerful and inspiring woman!!
We’re already back to work planning our next conference…see you soon!
Love and Light
